Ok everyone, so I have some pretty big news to share with you today.
If you saw my title photo then you probably already have it figured out.
Want to know what it is?
I can’t believe this is real!
On December 28th Matt and I went to walk around Annapolis and grab dinner. Annapolis has always been a special place for us. One of our first dates was there and we love spending time on it’s quaint streets and scenic docks. (Side note: If you’ve never been to Annapolis, it is a MUST in Maryland).
I had a feeling Matt might propose in either Annapolis or in Baltimore. Since we were going to Annapolis I figured he would do it on the docks we love so much. When we got there, however, it was really windy and cold. Not to mention that the whole docking-area of Annapolis was blocked off for renovations.
As we walked away I kept thinking to myself that I’m sure he would have done it on those docks. But when we saw them all boarded up he didn’t seem to have any desire to try and go over there. Whats more is that I tried studying his jeans pockets and didn’t see what appeared to be a ring box in there, and he had been acting normally all day.
I kept this thought in the back of my head and figured I would just hold it in a bit longer. We then walked up Main Street and saw the Maryland State House up the street. After seeing it Matt suggested we walk up there.
The Maryland State House sits in what is essentially a very large traffic circle. We crossed the street to get there and started reading a sign out front that told the building’s history. After reading it we went to walk up closer to the building itself. It was peaceful and quiet, with Matt and I the only ones there.
As we were walking closer to the house Matt started walking really slowly. Then I thought I saw him reach around in his pocket for something. He paused and started acting kind of strangely, just standing there not really saying anything. It was after a moment he finally got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
Naturally I was a bundle of emotion. How cute he was there kneeling before me waiting for my answer. It was perfect. It was in a spot that not only was beautiful, but also had meaning to the two of us. There was no one else around so he and I could just take in the moment.
Even sitting here now writing this it feels surreal. I suppose I really am an adult now. We’re engaged. I have a fiance. It’s still hard to wrap my head around.
I am just now starting to think more about the wedding and how I want it to go. There is so much to think about that it can be overwhelming! But following the advice of recently married friends, I’m just trying to take it one decision at a time, starting with a date and venue. I think we have a date in mind so it is just left to the venue!
I can’t wait to share my wedding and engagement updates with you as I travel through this process. I’m so excited for my future with Matt and can’t wait to see where this journey takes us =)
